Welcome to my website, I'm Ben. I work in forecasting, thinking about how to more accurately predict the future.

Before this, I spent about half of the last decade completing a PhD in materials science at Northwestern, where I researched adsorbent materials for water remediation and carbon capture, and then worked as an engineer supporting the Department of Energy's National Energy Technology Lab.

I write about science, forecasting, and other topics on my blog, The BS Detector. You can often find me trading on Manifold and commenting on Metaculus. In my free time, I construct crosswords, read about ancient history, and play basketball at my county gym.
